The Viola da Gamba Society of America is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the support, in the United States and abroad, of activities and resources relating to the viola da gamba, other early bowed string instruments, and their music.
We are a Society of players, builders, publishers, composers, scholars, restorers, and others sharing a serious interest in these beautiful instruments, their history, and their music, both old and new.
The mission of the VdGSA is to support, in the United States and abroad, activities and resources relating to the viola da gamba, other early bowed string instruments, and the music for these instruments. We are a Society of players, builders, publishers, composers, distributors, restorers, and others sharing a serious interest in these beautiful instruments, their history, and their music, both old and new. Our membership totals about 1100 individuals and institutions worldwide. Aside from the national organization, there are 18 official chapters and 30 area representatives in the United States, 4 area representatives from Canada, and another 14 around the world.
